Gas chromatography in ecological filters for cigarettes and their biodegradability

Abstract:

The study of ecological filters for cigarettes makes it possible to determine the amount of tar and nicotine, and also determines the time it takes to degrade, that is, its biodegradability. Through the use of ecological filters of a startup with activated carbon, pumice, kaolin, among other components in smaller proportion. In order to reduce the health problems of smokers and the environment. The method to analyze the amount of tar is based on the transport of cigarette smoke through a collector to an Erlenmeyer flask where it is collected by fiberglass filter, the amount obtained is measured in gram; Nicotine is determined by diluting the contaminants of the filter and the white sample (filter without previous use), the resulting samples are taken to the gas chromatograph to obtain the results in a computer. The percentage of biodegradation is related to the organic composition of each sample. As a result of the study, the optimal filter to be used by the user, the environment and society is determined, in addition to the optimal characteristics for its biodegradation.
