Gender and Employability: Case Study of Graduates of the Catholic University of Cuenca


Abstract:

In spite of the inequality gaps still latent in the labor market, the labor insertion of women constitutes a great advance in today's society, allowing to occupy jobs at different hierarchical levels that implies decision-making until policy determination that make visible the application of gender equity practices. Men and women play different roles both in the workplace, social and family that involves more work for women. The research suggests analyzing gender and employability in graduates of the Catholic University of Cuenca, Cañar Extension. Through a descriptive and field analysis, surveys were conducted on graduates of the Catholic University of Cuenca, Cañar Extension, 2014-2018 cohort of the Business Engineering degree. It is evident how women have achieved levels of professionalization that allow them to establish themselves in jobs in both public and private companies, thus allowing economic independence and a significant contribution to the family economy. It is concluded that, the vast majority of professional women graduates have a stable job which demonstrates the commitment of companies to ensure compliance with a constitutional principle such as gender equality, understood as equal rights, opportunities, and responsibilities of men and women, boys, girls and adolescents.
