Gender perspective and virtual learning conditions during pandemic
Abstract:
The adaptations that higher education had to incorporate because of the COVID-19 pandemic revealed several weaknesses and vulnerabilities present in the teaching-learning process; likewise, the student's difficulties in successfully carrying out their professional training were made evident. Much research, even before this public health emergency, has shown gaps in education regarding gender, with women often facing the greatest impediments regarding access and opportunities. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine if there are differences between the learning conditions in times of pandemic, according to the gender of the students at the Universidad Técnica del Norte (Ecuador). The study is quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational study; the universe is 11374; the probabilistic sample is 2,895 students; the instrument used showed a reliability level of 0.8 (Cronbach's Alpha). The analysis used contingency tables and the U Mann Whitney test. It was found that the variables: availability of equipment, availability of connectivity, availability of privacy and availability of sufficient time for studies, present significant differences (p<.05) between men and women; while, with the availability of comfort, there are no significant differences. It is concluded that women have a greater disadvantage, in four of the five variables, compared to men.
