Gene Therapy as a Solution to Genetic Diseases Through DNA Manipulation

Abstract:

The objective of the study was to investigate the advances in gene therapy to determine if its future methods will be the best solution when treating any genetic disease. This expectation is based on the fact that the treatment corrects the genomic sequence, eradicating it completely without the risk of its reappearance. The continuous development of this technique means ending “incurable” diseases and also treating “rare” diseases. The clinical trials carried out show that it has been possible to cure cancers and neuronal diseases that, through standard treatments, only relieve the symptoms and prolong the life of the patient without improving their quality of life. The cost of treatment, in the face of long-term critical illnesses, does not guarantee a cure or a better quality of life.
