General effects of forest fires on water quality and quantity
Abstract:
This project is structured in a way that let the reader enter the compression of the general effects of forest fires on the quality and quantity of surface water. In this research the effects of two fires are compared in water quality with the quality standards of drinking water of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The cases are: Rodeo-Chediski fire in Arizona in 2002 and to fire in a stream in the Kakadu National Park in Australia in 1998. After an analysis of the literature regarding the impacts of fires on the quantity of water, specifically the water yield and peak flows are shown since these can cause economic, social, environmental and cultural damage. This literature review is also displayed a technical assessment of the effects of forest fires in the quantity and quality of surface water which arises the possibility of carrying out future work that are detailed in the last point.
