Geoparks and their implantation in Latin America
Abstract:
The conservation of natural resources is a social process that has undergone adaptations and changes over the years. The geoparks are part of this process that seeks a holistic, binding and participatory management. In Latin America there are projects consolidated and under development, based on the indisputable geological characteristics of the area. In addition, there are the appropriate instruments that can be used as tools to enable the generation of regional geoparks, which also allow the effective management of geosites. In recent years there have been important regional changes related to geoparks, as well as the formation of the UNESCo Global Geoparks Network for Latin America and the Caribbean, which seeks to be a regional coverage entity for projects in the initial stage.
