Government communication and social networks during the 2020 pandemic in Ecuador: human rights and educational content
Abstract:
COVID-19 in Ecuador created great challenges in various areas, including the generation and dissemination of information in response to the communication needs of the public. In this scenario, this research focused on studying government communication and its official discourse on Twitter around Human Rights (HR), in a context of a global pandemic and with special attention to the educational element of the message. A qualitative approach methodology was proposed, divided into two stages: 1) a survey and analysis of information issued through the official accounts @MinGobiernoEc, @ComunicacionEc and @Riesgos_Ec; 2) In order to establish the perception of experts on the discursive treatment of information, in-depth interviews were conducted with experts in journalism and HR. The results revealed three moments of intensity in the communication curve, respect for HR and the scarce communication aimed at educating about COVID-19.
