Abstract:

During about 18 months of study in San Roque, located right behind San Francisco Monastery we made a theorical and practical investigation in which we studied the results and procedures of urban renovation plans inside the Historical Center in Quito. During this process we made interviews to the merchants of San Roque Marketplace, the artists and neighbors from the study zone and also the Town Council authorities whom refused to give us information explaining that those information did not exist because they do not have yet renovatin plans of the San Roque area.Throughout confidencial documents, we can prove that the plans of remotion of San Roque Marketplace do exist. Nevertheless the lack of political Town Council decision has provoked a general degeneration inside the neighborhood which they hope that people from San Roque eventually leaves the neighborhood and move to other places from de city so they can start an actual renovation onto the neighbor. Nonetheless they do not count that people form San Roque refuses t leave the place at all.
