Graphene Oxide Aerogels for Oil Spills and Organic Solvents Removal
Abstract:
The technological advances also come with a drawback in the air and water pollution. Different absorbents have been used commercially in environmental remediation by treating wastewaters from oil spills and organic solvents. Given that aerogels exhibit improved absorption capacity with respect to powder counterparts, they are lighter and show high regeneration efficiency, a large amount of research studies have been dedicated to such materials. In this respect, graphene aerogels attracted high interest due to the many advantages such as large surface area or hydrophobicity. This chapter highlights recent works in the field of water treatment by oil spill clean up and removal of organic solvents.
