4-dimensional intracardiac echocardiography in transcatheter mitral valve repair with the mitraclip system
Abstract:
2-DIMENSIONAL (2D) AND 3-DIMENSIONAL (3D) TRANSESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY (TEE) IS currently the gold standard for imaging edge-to-edge transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr). However, patients at excessive risk for general anesthesia or those with contraindications for TEE have limited treatment options. Potential contraindications to TEE include large hiatal hernia, cervical spine disease, and esophageal diseases such as strictures, Barrett’s esophagus, and varices. 4D intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) can be an alternative imaging modality in patients with contraindications to TEE (1, 2). 4D ICE provides real-time volumetric images with multiplanar reconstruction for intraprocedural guidance of edge-to-edge TMVr. The only commercially available 4D ICE catheter, when the cases were performed was the Acuson AcuNav (Siemens Healthineers, Erlangen, Germany). The Acuson …
