HELLP syndrome: A clinical case report

Abstract:

Background: HELLP Syndrome is one of the most relevant obstetric complications, due to the mortality that it entails. Objective: to describe the evolution of the HELLP Syndrome in the Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital, year 2020. Methodology: observational study, documentary review. For the review of articles included in the present research, biomedical databases such as Pubmed, Medline, Cochrane, among others, were consulted, guides, reviews and studies published in the last 5 years, in English and Spanish, were included. Descriptive statistics were applied for the analysis. The Tennessee and Mississippi systems were used to perform their classification and diagnosis. Informed consent was requested from the pregnant woman for access to her information recorded in the medical history. Results: this case had an atypical presentation of HELLP Syndrome, since it was not preceded by a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy; however, it was considered as a complication of it. This entity causes an increase in maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Conclusions: the signs and symptoms of HELLP Syndrome are nonspecific, with little reliability, and have characteristics consistent with endothelial dysfunction, activation of the trophoblast of the coagulation cascade and damage to liver function.
