Habitat fragmentation in the temperate zone
Abstract:
The authors discuss effects of habitat fragmentation on neotropical migrants. They focus on permanent habitat fragmentation, where isolated remnants of once broadly occurring vegetation types exist within a matrix of dramatically altered habitat. The authors discuss problems associated with habitat fragmentation including habitat loss, edge effects, nest predation, and interspecific competition. They offer management guidelines for providing quality breeding habitat for neotropical migrant songbirds.
