Heartmate 3 and Home Hemodialysis as a Bridge to Heart-Kidney Transplantation
Abstract:
Introduction An important advance in the treatment of heart failure (HF) patients is the use of left ventricular assist devices (LVAD), improving the survival in this population and being used as bridge to recovery, transplantation or as destination therapy. Renal failure was typically considered a contraindication for long-term LVAD due to the risk of infection and volume management difficulties. Case Report We present the case of a 65-year-old male with a history of diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, coronary artery disease, chronic kidney disease without renal replacement therapy (RRT) and low-grade prostate adenocarcinoma treated with radiotherapy.
