Hierarchical expert system as supervisory level in an adaptive control

Abstract:

The purpose of the third level (the supervising level) in adaptive control is to supervise, in real time, the accurate functioning of the global system. The supervisory level must be able to take adequate actions in order to assure a good functioning of the global scheme when specified stability and convergence conditions fail. In the present work the authors analyze the functions of the third level and propose some approaches toward its integration with the lower-level adaptive control schemes. Least squares and minimum variance algorithms are studied and aspects of third-level implementation are discussed. A hierarchical scheme that resolves implementation problems is described. Some results as well as some conclusions are reported. Finally, the authors present results of a modular program that can show the advantages of supervisory control.
