High accuracy three-dimensional radar sensor design based on fuzzy logic control approach

Abstract:

A radar sensor is used to determine the speed of a moving object. This function is made possible by the Doppler effect. However, relying on single radar sensor can have some shortcomings; for instance, (1) A single radar sensor can only accurately measure the speed of a target that is moving either directly towards or away from the sensor, and (2) Only one reading from each trigger can be obtained. In this paper, a novel three-dimensional radar system is proposed to address these disadvantages in target tracking. Furthermore, a fuzzy logic controller is proposed to minimize the error between the measured and actual speed. Experimental results show that such a system can improve tracking of the object with 10X better in error reduction in terms of accuracy and signal noise. © 2013 IEEE.
