Abstract:

Photo 1. A stream draining the paramo of Papallacta located within the Cayambe-Coca National Park in Ecuador (3800 m above sea level). Páramos are a collection of Neotropical alpine ecosystems within the grassland biome that covers the Northern region of the Andes between the upper forest line (~ 3500 m above sea level) and the permanent snowline (~ 5000 m).
