Higher education as an unavoidable binomial of local development

Abstract:

The university as a generator and diffuser of knowledge must define its role as manager of local development, responding to the task that society has entrusted to it, hence the need to generate projects that produce benefits of the community to improve the quality of life of a specific space. In this sense, this research is carried out aimed at determining the link of Higher Education with local development, seen as an unavoidable binomial. It is a descriptive study with documentary design, considering the documents referring to the development plans and territorial ordering of the parishes of the Portoviejo canton of the Province of Manabí, as well as research from the Technical University of Manabí. The result showed that there are weaknesses of different kinds in the parishes of the canton, considering as a fundamental tool to solve them the participation of the university with the inhabitants of each of each of the localities.
