Household electricity demand in marginal ecuador: Estimation and impact of explanatory variables

Abstract:

Despite all efforts to reduce household electricity consumption in the country, the demand remains in constant increase. There has been very little investigation carried out on the integration of household consumption trends and explanatory variables influencing them. The study was conducted applying descriptive correlation and explanatory factors analysis on data collected from 1,187 households in eight urban-marginal sectors of the city of Guayaquil. Ordinary least square regression was used to obtain coefficients for the proposed models. Our results show that socio-demographic variables affect the most on electric consumption and that behavioral patterns the least.
