Hybrid model for wound-rotor synchronous generator to detect and diagnose turn-to-turn short-circuit fault in stator windings

Abstract:

In this paper, a hybrid modeling approach to model synchronous generator by combining the $dq0$ modeling with the winding function approach has been proposed. The proposed hybrid approach improves accuracy and reduces complexity of the synchronous generator model for winding fault such as turn-to-turn short-circuit (TTSC). This paper also proposes a simple method to model localized saturation effect due to TTSC and presents an air-gap function for synchronous machine with winding fault to improve model accuracy under high degrees of TTSC fault. Experimental validation results show that the developed synchronous generator model with TTSC fault is able to provide improved accuracy and consistent performance under wider degrees of TTSC faults in the stator windings.
