Hydrothemal environment influence on water diffusion and mechanical behaviour of carbon fibre/epoxy laminates
Abstract:
Organic matrix composite materials have extended applications in different industrial sectors. Their utilization as structural or semistructural materials supposes that the materials' properties and characteristics are known, and the evolution over time of these properties under the conditions in which they are used. Among the possible factors that can modify the properties of this type of matrix materials, one of the most important is the moisture absorption that these materials have in different hygrothermal environments. There are many investigations that have developed defined moisture and temperature conditions, employing different theories to describe the water absorption kinetics on the materials [1-3]. However, only some publications have analysed the influence of the absorbed moisture and the environmental conditions on the mechanical properties of high-performance composite materials [4-7].
