ICT Oriented to the Elderly and Their Active Aging: A Systematic Review

Abstract:

This work presents a systematic review, from 2012 to the beginning of 2019, of experiences carried out with people over 65 years old, using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) with the aim of improving their self-care and health care empowerment for active aging. Most of the analyzed studies are focused on monitoring and assistance of older adults, meanwhile there are a minority of studies focused on rehabilitation. The most used ICT for health care are mobile applications and web services. Also there is a prevalence of use of specific sensors to monitor or control older adults. In relation with the promotion of exercises, the main purpose is the prevention of falls of older adults. Few projects used Interactive Television with solutions that allow older adults to easily set reminders for their health care and use entertainment programs to have physical, mental and social well-being. Particularly we found very few projects related to promote physical activity.
