IEEE, Control Systems Society, and Women in Engineering in Ecuador [Member Activities]

Abstract:

The IEEE Ecuador Section has been growing steadily since it was founded in 1974, and it is now a point of reference for technical and academic advancement in the country. Currently, this Section has more than 1270 professional and student members, 22 Student Branches and eight technical Chapters. In addition, it has two affinity groups [Women in Engineering (WIE) and Young Professionals]. The joint Chapter of the IEEE IES and CSS (IES&CSS) was created in 2016. The professional and student activities developed are aligned with the mission of IEEE WIE, which is to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical disciplines globally. In 2017, the coordinators of the Student Branch affinity groups, under the direction of WIE Ecuador, developed activities focused on attracting more girls to the science fields by organizing the IEEE Student-Teacher and Research Engineer/Scientist program and the Teacher In-Service Program in several high schools.
