Moving from Ecuador to a foreign country as Belgium changed my perspective of life, and gifted me with soulbeauty people that are now part of my existence. One of the most important ingbkp_redients to succeed in a journey of this kind is to have a strong willing, and of course, a righteous guidance. For this last one, I am infinitely thankful to Prof. Patrick Willems, who was the light and guided carefully my steps day-to-day to climb this challenging leader. His permanent constructive advices and ideas, good judgment and efficient capability feed my self-confidence and shape the many ideas to reach my achievements. It was with his support that my goal was successfully completed. My gratitude also is extended to Prof. Guido Wyseure who was always disposed to share his guidance and support, especially for his assistance in finding ways to keep me connected to my country. Support was also received from Prof. Jean Berlamont and Prof. Jos Van Orshoven. They, together with my colleagues in the Hydraulics Department, were always present in my doctoral seminars, giving me feedbacks and constructive comments to improve the quality of my research.
