INDUCTION OF HUMORAL IMMUNE RESPONSE USING HUMAN INTERFERON ALPHA 2B AND RECOMBINANT ANTI-HEPATITIS B VACCINE IN ASYMPTOMATIC CARRIER PATIENTS OF HEPATITIS B VIRUS.
Abstract:
The clinical consequences of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) are extremely variables. Approximaltity 5-10% of adults exposed to HBV and the 90% of perinatally infect children develop a chronic infection. The nature of chronic infection is also variable. The Asymptomatic Carrier State (ASC) can have relatively normal morphology and function despite the presence of high levels of viral replication. Because the HBV is not cytopathic, the liver injury and the subsequent clearance of virus are mediated by the immune response. An inadequate response leads to chronicity. The use of the recombinant Hepatitis B Virus surface antigen (HBsAg) subunit vaccine has been advocated to overcome the initial inadequate response to the natural infection by widening the immune repertoire against to HBV. We studied the serum HBsAg and anti-envelop antibodies (anti-HBs), detected and quantified by ELISA method, in 111 ASC patients …
