INFLUENCE OF MUSICAL PRACTICE ON EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS IN CHILDREN FROM 10 TO 13 YEARS OLD

Abstract:

A study has been carried out with the aim of finding the effect of musical performance on children’s executive functions. Pre-vious studies have shown that the musically trained brain undergoes changes in its anatomy and functionality. The EFECO self-report scale was applied to measure Executive Functions in children between 10 and 13 years old, taking into account an experimental group and a control group. The EFECO test measured this relationship with the following executive functions: Monitoring, Inhibition, Flexibility, Emotional Control, Planning, Organization of Materials, Initiative and Working memory. It has been established that the influence of musical practice notably improves development in all executive functions, being the executive function called Emotional Control the one that has given the greatest advantage and Working Memory function the lowest proportion.
