Abstract:
The performance of natural ecosystems generally located in rural territories contrasts with the levels of poverty and exclusion that tend to affect their population, which in their relationship with external actors are additionally exposed to tensions associated with the management of essential resources for their existence. Water is one of the resources of common use of multiple uses and with meanings linked to almost all dimensions of life. In this context, the process of water governance in the communal territory of Santa Elena (Ecuador) is analyzed, articulating the theoretical perspectives of common goods and conventions, and emphasizing some of its main communicational dynamics. It is shown that the use of certain collective action institutions also entails the activation of different discourses and justification principles of the community actors who participate in spaces linked to state public policy related to water management.
