Identificación de factores de riesgo de trastornos músculo esqueléticos mediante la aplicación del método REBA en los auxiliares de servicio general del Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga de la ciudad de Cuenca, 2015

Abstract:

• GENERAL OBJECTIVE To identify the risk factors of musculoskeletal disorders through the application of the REBA method on the general service assistants of the Jose Carrasco Arteaga Hospital in Cuenca, Ecuador. • METHODOLOGY An observational, cross-sectional quantitative study was performed on 58 general service assistants from the Jose Carrasco Arteaga Hospital. First, an informed consent was delivered to the participants to start the study. Then, a survey was applied, gathering data such as age, sex, career length, work field, activities carried out during the work day and score in REBA method. Subsequently, data analysis was achieved applying the REBA method. This method divides the human body in segments in order to evaluate these individually through the observation and the assessment of the static and dynamic postures during occupational activities. The obtained data was tabulated and analyzed using specialized software (SPSS v.14 and Excel 2010) to obtain statistical averages, means, standard deviation, and other elements of Descriptive Statistics. Then, the results were presented in a methodical and organized manner using statistical charts. • RESULTS This study found that 22.41% of the general service assistants need immediate action to reduce risk factors associated to the emergence of musculoskeletal disorders, males being the most affected with a score of 27.7%. Also, of allwork duties of general service assistants, the ones representing the greatest risk are the transfer of patients from the stretcher to the hospital bed, with a score of 34.48%, and the transport of medical supplies boxes, with 14.29%.Regarding age range, the most affected group is that between the ages of 18 to 40 years old, with a score of 35.35%. But concerning career length, the highest risk percentage was found among those working for 1 to 5 years (22,73%). • CONCLUSION The REBA method is a quick and efficient procedure to evaluate risk factors that could potentially become musculoskeletal disorders. In addition to this, there is a large amount of employees that require immediate attention, and who should be provided with prevention measures with the aim of reducing the rate of possible pathologies that could affect their wellbeing. • CONCLUSION The REBA method is a quick and efficient procedure to evaluate risk factors that could potentially become musculoskeletal disorders.
