Identificación de los impactos que genera el patrimonio cultural en el territorio, desde un enfoque cualitativo y participativo: el caso de estudio del barrio de San Roque.

Abstract:

Culture is a fundamental pillar of Development in the territory and cultural heritage is a significant and fundamental part of that Culture. Therefore, it is necessary to ask the following question: What is the role of cultural heritage in the development dynamics of the territory? In this framework, identifying the impacts of this heritage allows us to understand this role. This means that, the heritage values generate impacts in the territory and, at the same time, these impacts increase or decrease these values. The present study shows some evidences in the local and international context, respect to identification experiences of cultural heritage impacts in the territory, through which has applied a qualitative and participatory methodology in the neighborhood of San Roque (Cuenca - Ecuador), in order to determine the effects generated by cultural heritage in the economic, social, cultural and environmental spheres of the neighborhood. Through this analysis, several impacts of the presence of cultural heritage have been determined, highlighting, for example, the tension between the institutions in charge of property management and the community, with respect to the objectives that each one pursues of said heritage. However, the presence of an intangible heritage has also been determined, capable of generating spaces for meetings, coexistence, social capital and cohesion among neighbors.
