Immigration in the Ecuadorian audiovisual informative discourse

Abstract:

The article analyzes the media treatment that was given to the news about immigration in the main public and private media of Ecuador: Ecuavisa, Teleamazonas, and Ecuador TV, between July 26 to August 23 of 2018. In which 10 items associated with its respective framings developed. The method used is the analytical and comparative, and the methodology is mixed with a quantitative approach. The results show that the internal/national debate on immigration prevailed in the media treatment as a result of the various decisions taken by the Ecuadorian State. About the frame given by the news analyzed, this was neutral and standardized, however, in the case of Teleamazonas was negative. In relation to the guarantee of fundamental rights, the Ecuadorian State is contravened by requiring the passport as an obligatory requirement. Although it promotes the economic contribution of immigrants, the treatment of criminal acts involving them promote the idea of “dangerous nationalities”.
