Impact of 'bancos del barrio' in rural areas of the Ecuadorian coast: A study of four cases

Abstract:

Financial inclusion is a major determinant for reducing the social and financial exclusion of neglected areas. A qualitative analysis of Banco Guayaquil's banking correspondent strategy was carried out in rural areas of Ecuador where there was previously no presence of any financial institution. It is concluded that the correspondence is a powerful tool for the reduction of financial exclusion and helps to gradually improve the quality of life of the villagers.
