Impacto de la dolarización en el desempeño de la banca privada ecuatoriana 2000-2013

Abstract:

In the late nineties, the Ecuadorian economy was affected by a severe financial crisis; hyperinflation, the continuing devaluation of the national currency, along with a mismatch in bank deposits triggered by a lack of trust in the Ecuadorian Sucre and the banking system in general, led to the closure of several banks and other financial institutions. As a result, the Ecuadorian Sucre was ended and the economy was dollarized - by adopting a strong, stable currency like the US Dollar, inflation, interest rates and the economic situation in general was stabilized, with positive growth rates being achieved. Macroeconomic stability and the loss of currency risk were the two major reasons which allowed the private financial systems to regain their performance. Through the use of key data obtained from ten private banks, and using a data panel method, this research analyzes the effect of dollarization in financial indicators that measure the performance of private banks such as profitability, liquidity, solvency and overall cbkp_redit risk
