Impacto económico de la fiesta de la fruta y de las flores de Ambato
Abstract:
This research project quantifies the direct, indirect and induced economic impact generated by the Fiesta de la Fruta y de las Flores (FFF). As direct impact are considered the expenses made by the Comité Permanente of the FFF, the Dirección Técnica de Tungurahua del Ministerio de Turismo (MINTUR) and the managers of enterprises which have participated in public events of the official celebration. The indirect impact is related to the expenses made by tourists staying at accommodation places registered at MINTUR in Ambato; it is also considered one visitor per bed. The induced impact is the multiplier effect in the rest of the economic system of the country responsible for implementing the FFF The selection of people to be interviewed was performed with criteria and stratified random probability sampling. The direct impact was quantified in US 993,398.27, this amount was mostly spent in the following cities: Ambato, Quito and Guayaquil, an important amount derived to other countries than Ecuador, mainly for artistic and entertainment activities. The Comité Permanente has made the 66 of the direct investment. The indirect economic impact applying the expansion factor was estimated at US 2,186,717.37. By using the multipliers of the expenses in the tourist sector of the input-output economic matrix, the induced impact was calculated as US 6,776,674.24, 33% of this amount was allocated into the manufacturing industry, 22% was allocated in artistic activities, 17% was allocated in wholesale-retail trading and, finally, 10% was allocated in lodging and food services.
