Implementation of a Geographic Information System for Sustainable Development, at the Universidad Tecnica de Manabi

Abstract:

On the territory of the province of Manabi in Ecuador, there is a considerable level of solar radiation. However, this endogenous natural resource has not used adequately for energy purposes for the benefit of society. The lack of information to develop research related to this natural resource and the ways of its use is one of the barriers that hinder the development of technologies that allow its use. In addition, the province is especially vulnerable to seismic risks, floods and droughts. Considering the situation described above and using various computer tools. The Geographic Information System for Sustainable Development (SIGDS) has designed and evaluated which presents user friendly and functional ease of use for users and is currently working for its consolidation as an effective tool to manage information on renewable energy sources, as well as disaster risk management and environmental management of the territory.
