Implementation of a Sliding Mode Control in a Brushless DC Motor for the Emulation of a Robust Control in an Electric Bicycle


Abstract:

In this article a closed-loop regulation based on Slide Mode Control (SMC) is presented. The main objective is to control the speed of a brushless DC motor (BLDC) used in electric transportation such as electric bikes. The SMC algorithm represents and advanced and robust method to achieve setpoints in linear and non-linear plants. In this scenario, the SMC is an excellent alternative to control BLDC motor. This paper shows the process of designing MPC structure and reference tracking for speed values. Results are compared with a traditional control method like PID. Finally, compressions between these two control methods are performed to show the effectivity of SMC.
