Implementation of a residential electric energy meter prototype considering the reduction of non technical losses due to theft

Abstract:

A smart electronic prototype to measure the electric consumption by acquisition modules and voltage processing, current, power and electric energy (APVCP&E) has been developed. It can detect notechnical loss when the electrical energy is being stolen in the supply connections. The prototype was implemented with an Arduino MEGA 2560 and a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) which let us see voltage information, RMS (Root-mean-square) current, active power and the value to be paid by energy consumption. The last element is to encourage user to save energy. The smart meter offers bidirectional communication by internet between provider enterprise and the meter, supplies information in real time of the consumption and if it is legal. In a distant way, the enterprise can connect and disconnect the service by a controlling software. As a result, we concluded that the system can measure real RMS values of voltage …
