Abstract:

Background Among the more promising approaches to HIV vaccine development, is use of live viral vectors encoding immunogenic HIV proteins to elicit specific immunity against transgene products. Longl term nonprogression to AIDS correlates with strong HIVlspecific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responses, therefore a vaccine against HIV should promote CTL as well as antibody responses. Such responses should be large in magnitude and durable in vivo. A vaccine′ s ability to elicit immunologic memory may be augmented by combining administration of antigens with cytokines such as ILl15, that foster CTL differentiation into memory cells. We therefore investigated the effectiveness of different regimens delivering ILl15 using recombinant SV40 vectors (rSV40) to augment immune responses against HIV gp120 also delivered by an rSV40.
