Improvement of the fractionation process of agrochemicals using lean manufacturing techniques

Abstract:

This project is carried out in a company dedicated to marketing, fractionation and distribution of agrochemicals, specifically the chemical fractionation line. To start the project, a diagnosis of the processes that make up the line fractionation was made, where the main problems leading to a drop in productivity of the line, which was presented in an initial Value Stream Mapping (VSM). The project objective was to eliminate waste in the process, but if that were not possible elimination, were to reduce them to the maximum. As a key part of the project existing waste was identified in the process, giving priority to those with the greatest impact to thereby generate the greatest benefits, and to address them by implementing two tools belonging to lean manufacturing. Therefore, the implementation of the 5S and Single Minute Exchange Die (SMED) methodologies are proposed. Establishing measures and indicators that show the results of the improvements implemented in the process, which is represented in a final VSM. Finally the results of the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques is analyzed with the aim of presenting conclusions and recommendations of the project.
