Incidence of Dialectal Accents in the Students’ Listening Understanding

Abstract:

The didactics of foreign languages have been changing according to the needs of the contexts, presenting new models and resources, as well as learning objectives aimed at communicative competence. The exposition to different accents and dialects of the English language can improve the audible range of its apprentices due to the possibility of locking on different intonations and pronunciations that allow the development of listening comprehension for the development of oral expression. This article addresses the importance of integrating the practice of pronunciation and understanding of different dialectal accents in the teaching–learning process. A non-experimental design of the research model was used, including in the field research the application of techniques whose collected information allowed evaluating the level of development of the communicative competence and the level of use of the dialectal accents in the auditory comprehension. The analysis and statistical processing were performed for the interpretation of the results.
