Incidencia de microinfartos cerebrales diagnosticados por resonancia magnética en pacientes mayores a 50 años en el Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga, febrero - julio 2018

Abstract:

Microinfarcts are small hyperintense lesions smaller than 20mm in the distal distribution of the deep penetrating vessels that supply the subcortical region of the brain, the depth of the white matter, the basal ganglia and the protuberance and are due to fibrinoid degeneration, the assessment. This pathology is performed by magnetic resonance, which is a method of obtaining images without the use of ionizing radiation. OBJECTIVE. To determine the incidence of cerebral microinfarcts diagnosed by magnetic resonance imaging in patients older than 50 years in the Hospital José Carrasco Arteaga in the period February - July 2018. METHODOLOGY. A descriptive and prospective study was carried out whose universe was made up of the clinical histories of patients who attended the service of Imaging of the Hospital "José Carrasco Arteaga", to perform a magnetic resonance imaging study of the skull, during February - July 2018; this information was tabulated and analyzed based on the variables: Age, Gender and Radiological Characteristics observed in magnetic resonance suggestive of microinfarcts. RESULTS. The data were analyze and the following results were obtain: 226 patients (59.6%) had cerebral microinfarcts, of these 58% are female. 37% of patients are in the range of 60 to 69 years of age. The most common location was in the subcortical area with 95.6%. The most frequent size of cerebral micro-infarcts was 2 - 9.9mm with 98.2%. Regarding the pattern of intensities analyzed in the DIFFUSION sequence, it was observe that 97.8% corresponded to the isointense pattern. CONCLUSIONS. With the research project, the incidence of cerebral microinfarcts diagnosed by magnetic resonance was determined.
