Abstract:

The present research work aims to identify the incidence of lockdown COVID-19 in the cognitive impairment of older adults attending a day care center in a rural parish of Metropolitan District of Quito in the years 2020 and 2021. The methodology used for the development of the study was through a quantitative approach, from a non-experimental exploratory design. The sample of this investigation was of 50 users, 10 male and 30 female, with ages ranging from 65 to 95 years old. For the elaboration of this research, two standardized instruments were applied anonymously in order to measure the cognitive impairment of older adults. They are tests that include between 15 to 30 questions with an estimated time of 10 to 15 minutes of application. The first instrument is divided into different categories such as: space-time orientation, memory, delayed memory, attention and calculation, naming, sentence repetition, comprehension/ execution/ order, reading, writing, drawing copy, the second is a general instrument of how the person has felt in the last weeks. In order to obtain the results, statistical tables were elaborated with the purpose of ordering the information and having quantitative data on cognitive impairment. Finally, the interpretation of the results was elaborated, which helped us to identify the incidence of cognitive impairment in the different years of the research.
