Inclusive Education In The Teaching-Learning Process At The Peninsula Santa Elena State University

Abstract:

This study aimed to learn about and analyze the reality of inclusive education at the Peninsula de Santa Elena State University (UPSE), a higher education institution located in La Libertad canton. This analysis focuses on the teaching staff’s infrastructure, capacity and aptitude to work with students with special educational needs (SEN) and the methodology, tools and techniques used in the teaching-learning process. In order to obtain data, mixed research was applied. A survey was made to 150 teachers of the institution, with a questionnaire using a Likert-type scale. The results show that most of them are not prepared to work with students with disabilities and that the institution should take measures to comply with the requirements of educational inclusion. The results suggest the need to deepen teacher training on this issue and plan infrastructure improvements in the institution to facilitate access to higher education for students with disabilities.
