Increasing the modulated output power from an EML transmitter through a novel dual-drive scheme


Abstract:

A conventional EML is operated with a novel dual-drive scheme to increase output power before EAM saturation. At 10Gb/s, a 3dB power gain over conventional driving is measured with high extinction, good mask margin and low path penalty. Operation at 25Gb/s NRZ is also demonstrated.
