Indigenous cosmovision about health and illness in Otavalo-Ecuador

Abstract:

The health-illness is seen as an intecultural focus by Andean view. The purpose of this investigation is to identify the level of incidence of Indigenous Cosmovision over the health-illness in Otavalo-Ecuador. It has been done a search through observation, focal method to a group of 95 20-80 year-old women. The results show that these women keep practicing the traditional method to cure illnesses, they use plants to heal the physical and emotional body pains. Based on an interview to curanderos (traditional medicine men) we can notice they have their beliefs in God, additionally they use elements of nature. These people do not visit doctors but they trust in Indigenous Cosmovision.
