Influence of the heating rate in the precipitation kinetic in the aluminium AA-6061 by means of electrical resistivity measurements

Abstract:

In this work the influence of heating rate in the kinetics of precipitation and in the formation and later transformation of the Güinier-Preston zones (GP zones) is studied. In addition, the study includes the transformation of the metastable phases β'' and β', until the equilibrium phase β is reached, and precipitates present in the aluminium AA-6061. The study was conducted through the observation and analysis of the curves of electrical resistivity as a function of the temperature for non-isothermic annealing, obtained by application of the four electrical contacts method. The experiments were carried out at constant and variable heating rates, in the range from room temperature to 600°C. For lower heating rates (≤20°C/min), the regions of formation and transformation of the GP zones, the phases β'' and β', and the intermetalic can be clearly observed.
