Influencia de la diabetes y tabaquismo en la terapia periodontal

Abstract:

This research will describe the influence of diabetes mellitus and smoking on periodontal therapy since diabetes mellitus and smoking are environmental factors that influence periodontal therapies.Several studies have shown that periodontal therapies in diabetic patients have helped to improve the patient's condition, improving glycemic control as it manages to decrease the state of systemic inflammation and also helps to reduce the number of inflammatory cells such as IL6 and TNF- α that causes alterations in insulin activity. Smoking also tends to develop several adverse effects onperiodontal tissues, periodontal treatment smokers also manage to obtain an improvement, however, there is evidence that there is a greater number of treatment failures due to smoking, since the components of cigarettes negatively influence the healing processes after surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapies. Objective: To determine the influence of diabetes and smokingon periodontal therapy. Materials and methods: This is a qualitative, documentary, exploratory research, which was based on a search for information in the following journals or scientific academic platforms such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Scielo, and repositories. Its methodology is analytical-synthetic, historical-logical, using the technique of bibliographic review of sources. Conclusion: It is concluded that periodontal therapy improves the condition of diabetic patients, andthat smoking should be excluded to obtain a successful treatment.
