Information sharing status of the port community system in Vietnam
Abstract:
Nowadays, the distance between countries and regions is shorting and moving rapidly towards stronger connections. The transportation sector, particularly ports, is innovated into a modern, intelligent and more secure industry to link with other fields. Information technology is a key element to open this complicated door to speed up the economy and achieve the competitive advantage. Port Community System together with Single Window is the crossroads to maintain this universal network smoothly and creates a "sharing" opportunity. In order to assure real-time and cost-effective transformation in the port community, information exchange is a crucial factor in exploring and considering the strategic approach to improve this essential framework. This is proven by existing port community systems in various areas such as Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific; these days it is shifting to ASEAN nations. Vietnam is developing fast and the demand for economic growth is higher than ever before. The government emphasizes the administration reform, business environment gain, and global integration, but still faces many frustrations and challenges. This research provides a current overview of the Single Window, Port Community System and how information is shared between ports. Furthermore, this study proposes and analyzes a model of information exchange between National Single Window and Port Community System rated to the seaports in Vietnam. This is an advantage for Vietnam's ports in terms of logistics and supply chain evolution in the future.
