Informative treatment and media competencies of digital native media in the time of COVID-19
Abstract:
The objective of this study is to analyze the informative treatment that Loja’s native digital media (First Report and Lo del Momento Loja) gave to news about Covid-19; likewise, to know the media competencies of the journalists who carry out the coverage. An analysis was made of information published by the two media on the Twitter social network to determine the treatment of the information. A citizens’ survey was applied to see how the subject was informed, and finally, editors from the two media were interviewed to obtain first-hand the way of handling information and media competencies of their journalistic team. Results show that despite giving a neutral treatment to content broadcast on Covid-19, 25% of the news caused disinformation; Citizens affirm that the media do not adequately fulfill their task of reporting and say they have lost cbkp_redibility in the media.
