Infrastructures and platforms for smart energy buildings and neighborhoods

Abstract:

Integration of today's renewable energies in current power grid infrastructure requires intelligent and efficient use of locally produced energy. An effective way to achieve this is to manage the electrical energy consumption in buildings and neighborhoods. For this purpose, IT infrastructure to network appliances and control their power consumption is required. This IT infrastructure is expected to be inexpensive, to consume low power, and to provide high security while being easy to deploy. Currently, no hardware/software platform fulfills these requirements. This paper gives an overview of technologies and platforms to approach these goals, delving, in particular, in SmartCoDe project outcomes.
