Inga colochensis (Fabaceae, Mimosoideae), a new species endemic to the tropical dry forest in Ecuador

Abstract:

Inga colonchensis is described from fragmented tropical dry forest in the cordillera Chongón-Colonche, Guayas Province, western Ecuador. It is placed in section Leptinga on account of the capituliform inflorescence and very small subglabrous flowers. This new species is similar to I. allenii from Costa Rica and Panama but differs in its barrel-shaped foliar nectaries, smaller fruits with obtuse apex, and higher number of lateral veins per side.
