Integración latinoamericana: Desarrollo económico y comercio intrarregional, 1990-2014
Abstract:
We analyze the evolution of Latin American integration in the period 1990- 2014. During the nineties, the decline in trade with the US and the EU was offset by an increase in intraregional trade and with China. In the 21st century, the still greater decline in trade with the US and the EU, and the stagnation and even decline of trade in the region was offset by the substantial increase with China. All countries followed the described trend, although Venezuela has produced exceptional data. It is nevertheless necessary to consider the evolution of intraregional trade in the next few years, given that regional investments to facilitate trade made in the framework of "new integration" are not finished and more and more jobs call for regional integration as the only tool to stop having a secondary role in a globalized world.
